USA have confirmed the appointment of former Australia international Stuart Law as their new head coach.

Stuart Law

Law is perhaps better known for his outstanding coaching resume than for his more than 50 games played for Australia, which included being a member of the team that placed second behind Sri Lanka in the 1996 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. Law retired from international cricket at the beginning of this century.

Before more recent work with Afghanistan and the Bangladesh Under 19 team at this year's ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup, Law served as head coach of both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the beginning of the previous decade. In 2018, Law also had a stint with the West Indies.

Law now has the big job with the USA. He will lead the team in their three-match T201 series against Bangladesh at home starting next month, as well as when they co-host the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in June with the West Indies.

Even though Law is aware of the difficult challenging that lay ahead, the Australian is eager to see his inexperienced team succeed in the international arena.

"It is an exciting opportunity to join USA cricket at this time," Law stated.

"As one of the best Associate nations in the sport, the USA has the potential to have a successful team in the future."

"The first task will be to prepare the team for the series against Bangladesh and then set our sights on our home World Cup, which will be huge."

Venu Pisike, the chairperson of USA Cricket, thinks Law has the potential to guide the team skillfully and anticipates great success for the team under Law's coaching.

"Stuart is one of the most accomplished coaches in the sport," stated Pisike."

"With his duties, he brings a lot of experience to USA Cricket, especially in building international sides over the years. The team will only be able to reach its maximum potential with his appointment."

"We are thrilled to have Stuart join our team just in time for the World Cup, and we anticipate many more success together. We send him our best wishes."

The USA's first match in the T20 World Cup is against Canada in Texas on June 1. Following that, they will play against Pakistan on June 6, India on June 12, and Ireland on June 14.
