Former Indian Captain Appointed As Mentor For Afghanistan Ahead Of World Cup 2023

Ajay Jadeja, former India captain, has been appointed as Afghanistan's mentor for the duration of ICC Men's Cricket 2023 Men's World Cup, according to the Afghanistan Cricket Board's (ACB).

The 32-year-old former wicketkeeper-batsman has an impressive record of 196 matches in ODI cricket, scoring 5,539 runs at an impressive 37.47 runs per innings, including six hundreds and 30 half-centuries.

He also played 15 Test matches for India between 1992 and 2000, and was part of India's squad in three editions of the World Cup (1992, 1996 and 1999).

One of the highlights of India's 1992 campaign was Jadeja's remarkable catch to dismiss Australia's Allan Border in the group-stage of the tournament.

Afghanistan are currently in India ahead of the World Cup, but their preparations were hit by a washout in their first warm-up game against South Africa. The match against the Proteas was washed out in the first innings after heavy rain stopped the ball from being bowled.

The visitors will be back in action on Tuesday, October 3, when they host Sri Lanka at the HPCA (Hindustanpala Cricket Association) Stadium (Guwahati).

The tournament will begin on October 7, with Afghanistan taking on arch-rivals Bangladesh at the beautiful HPCA stadium (Dharamsala).
